Ok. Every time Hennessy's name is put into any blog post or any article anywhere, there are approximately 537 kids typing from their mothers basement that start talking about Hennessy the thief, and how none of them would ever let this man touch their imaginary cars.

Kinja'd!!!

I recall several unsubstantiated stories from about 20 years ago, but after 20+ years in business he must have been doing something right.

So, to the crux of my question, is Hennessy's reputation deserved? Valid? Or just plain old internet bullshit that won't die?

I don't really care to be honest.

Speaking of which, that tuner school of his actually sounds pretty interesting. Anyone have any info and/or hate to spew on it?

It may have been deserved at one point 20 years ago but seems fine now, all I see is badass stuff coming out of his shop. Hell, that Viper right there is enough to make me not care.

His reputation, in my opinion, is deserved. Stealing from customers, and we aren't talking change out of the ash tray, is something that should always be remembered. Couple that with his ability to make JR Granatelli seem like a nice guy in the online world, and he has made quite the bed for himself.

His current products may be great, but nobody can be blamed for his reputation but him.

Full disclosure: I'm not in a basement, I live on my own, and have had plenty of non imaginary cars that have seen lots of non imaginary money and time put into them. I wouldn't take any of them to Hennessey, but that's just my stance. I won't tell anyone that feels otherwise that they are wrong, as everyone deserves an opinion.

I don't care because I'm not the one spending half a million sometimes on a build, so what he does or doesn't do is of no consequence to my life.

I'm more fan of UGR, simply because they perform magic with Gallardos.

I don't have much for him to steal. Doubt I will ever have the kind of money to buy one of his cars, so I personally don't give a crap about his reputation. I do like his blown out of proportion cars, though. That is all that matters to me.

I wasn't aware of any negative reputation other than from the purists who don't think cars should be modified in these ways, but I think he's great. He's another Texas speed freak in the line with Shelby and for that and for pushing the envelope on what can be done with a car from outside a manufacturer's headquarters, he has my respect.
